My, that’s a big one

The courtship rituals of Homo sapiens are many and varied but are nothing compared to those in the rest of the animal kingdom. Animals rituals include, but are not restricted to, dancing (peacock spiders and lyrebirds), singing (any of the Whistler birds), male displays of strength (kangaroos) or offerings of food (scorpion flies) and  house-building supplies .

Red-browed Finches (Neochima temporalis) use a combination of these. The male bird will collect a feather or a display stem of nest-building material (the bigger the better) and proceed to dance into front of a prospective mate (see below). If she is impressed mating can proceed.

I wonder if my sparky son-in-law sealed the deal with a piece of electric flex between his teeth?
